CREATE SPIRITUAL HOBBIES
Christianity is a lifestyle and therefore it involves “hanging out with God” all the time. Yes, it’s not that easy but with practice, you’ll make progress. I learnt and decided to integrate spiritual practices in my daily routine as a hobby. I read the Bible not because it is a requirement but because I want to know what my Lord has for me in every area of life and live out those promises. I worship and praise not only to stir my spirit but to fellowship with the man/Lord that I love. I meditate His word throughout the day to emulate my being with His truth/character and enjoy other benefits that come with it…
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
The mind is in hostility with the Spirit [See Romans 8:5-8],..meditating the Word at all times will help you to remain in the Spirit and prevent your mind from entertaining negative/worrying thoughts. This is how you renew your mind to focus on the things of God. [See Romans 12:2]
I read and listen to faith building messages to grow myself spiritually and gain knowledge.
In the beginning, I did these practices as a “duty” and sometimes I forced myself to do them in fear of “not being an upright Christian”. As a result I did not enjoy my time with the Lord, sometimes. Now, I’ve trained myself to make a hobby out of spiritual practices and I reap mega benefits! My spiritual life keeps on soaring because I spend most of my time “being in the Spirit” and I enjoy hanging out with the Lord all the time. I worship, praise, pray, read and meditate the Word out of love and as a hobby.
Also, I’ve learnt to personalize the Word of God in my life. I speak scriptures over my life, family, dreams/goals, etc throughout the day. Whenever the occasion allows I go to a private place and pray scriptures over the needs that I have. I acknowledge the power of God’s Word in transforming people and situations and use it effectively! I praise God that He performs His Word faithfully!
Moreover, you can make fasting into a habit too. Do not wait for things to get complicated for you to start fasting. Yes, there are times when the Holy Spirit himself instructs you to fast but other times you can decide to pick a day or two out of every week and fast for a specific need. This will strengthen your spiritual life and speed up the release of your blessings, prayers and deliverance.
Christianity is a lifestyle! Make it fun and productive. Have a fruitful September!
